Florida has renamed Palm Beach International Airport as President Donald J. Trump International Airport, with the change taking effect on July 9 after state legislation was signed and federal aviation authorities approved the redesignation.
The airport, formerly identified by the code PBI, will adopt the three-letter designation DJT on August 18.
Following the renaming, an internal airline memo directed reservation agents to offer passengers alternatives if they did not wish to travel to the newly named airport.
The guidance instructed agents to use discretion in proposing nearby airports such as Fort Lauderdale or Miami without imposing exchange fees.
The airline later stated that the internal message was inaccurately worded and clarified that ticket changes are permitted without charge for various reasons, but not specifically due to an airport's name or code.
The episode has drawn attention to how carriers manage customer accommodations amid politically charged infrastructure changes.
