BEAGLES UNDER ATTACK: Chaos Erupts as Activists FIGHT BACK!

BEAGLES UNDER ATTACK: Chaos Erupts as Activists FIGHT BACK!

A tense standoff erupted Saturday at Ridglan Farms, a Wisconsin beagle breeding facility, as hundreds of animal welfare activists attempted to breach its grounds. Law enforcement, anticipating the demonstration, deployed tear gas, pepper balls, and rubber bullets in an effort to maintain order and prevent a violent takeover.

The situation quickly escalated after protesters, numbering around 1,000, unexpectedly moved up a planned Sunday demonstration. Authorities issued warnings via a Long Range Acoustic Device, stating that crossing onto private property would result in arrest, but hundreds disregarded these directives and aggressively attempted to dismantle barriers and fencing.

Wayne Hsiung, a key organizer with the Coalition to Save the Ridglan Dogs, was arrested almost immediately upon arrival, facing charges of conspiracy to commit burglary. Even from jail, Hsiung rallied supporters, proclaiming the actions a display of bravery and vowing to continue the fight for the dogs’ freedom.

The confrontation wasn’t simply a spontaneous outburst. It followed mounting scrutiny of Ridglan Farms, fueled by allegations of numerous code violations and concerns for the well-being of the beagles housed there. Representative Mark Pocan recently questioned Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. about continued NIH funding for the facility.

During a recent hearing, Pocan challenged Kennedy’s claims regarding the ongoing use of Ridglan Farms’ beagles in testing. Kennedy initially expressed skepticism, stating a need to investigate, but later asserted his administration had “ended most” animal testing.

However, the White Coat Waste Project disputes Kennedy’s assertions, alleging that over $126 million in new funding has been allocated to animal testing labs since he took office. They claim officials actively attempted to silence their criticisms and suppress information regarding continued funding.

As protesters surged forward, some were determined to bypass formidable defenses – including manure-filled trenches, hay bales, and barbed-wire fencing. While some managed to breach the outer perimeter, they were ultimately prevented from entering the main facility.

Law enforcement reported that protesters not only attempted to break into the property but also actively obstructed emergency access by blocking roads. A driver was even arrested for recklessly maneuvering a vehicle through the grounds, posing a significant safety risk.

Investigators recovered burglary tools from activists, including saws, fence cutters, sledgehammers, handcuff keys, and even tear gas, suggesting a premeditated intent to infiltrate and potentially liberate the animals. Authorities also noted attempts to overwhelm the 911 system with calls, diverting crucial resources.

This incident marks the second major protest at Ridglan Farms in recent months. In March, activists successfully broke into the facility and removed 30 dogs, resulting in the arrest of 27 individuals. Ridglan Farms, which houses approximately 2,000 beagles, maintains its innocence, denying allegations of animal mistreatment.

The company surrendered its state breeding license last year as part of a deal to avoid prosecution on animal mistreatment charges, while continuing to deny any wrongdoing. Despite the setbacks, activists regrouped and continued their demonstration outside the Dane County Jail, determined to keep the pressure on.
