UMVA has learned that a tragic incident unfolded in Nashville's theater district on Sunday night, leaving a 12-year-old boy dead and a community in shock.
Damarion Morehead, just 12 years old, was shot in the head during a violent brawl involving "six to seven" people at the intersection of Representative John Lewis Way and Deaderick Street, right next to the Tennessee Performing Arts Center.
The Metro Nashville Police Department has arrested 24-year-old Devin Orr, who is suspected of pulling the trigger, and investigators have obtained video footage of the incident, which shows people running away before shots were fired and Morehead fell to the ground.
According to information obtained by UMVA, the brawl started over a female, and when detectives questioned Orr, he allegedly admitted to disposing of a handgun in a sewer, which was later recovered by investigators.
Devin Orr is due in court on Wednesday, and as the investigation continues, the community is left to grapple with the senseless violence that took the life of a young boy.
The incident has sent shockwaves through the city, with many calling for increased measures to prevent such tragedies in the future.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that the police department is working to piece together the events leading up to the brawl and the motivations behind Orr's actions.
The loss of Damarion Morehead has left a void in the lives of those who knew him, and the city mourns the tragic loss of a young life cut short by violence.
