PAL Expands Long-Haul Fleet with 9 New Airbus A350-1000 Jets

Philippine Airlines has reached a significant milestone in its fleet renewal program with the signing of a memorandum of understanding with Airbus to acquire nine additional A350-1000 aircraft. The agreement also includes purchase rights for five more aircraft to support future fleet requirements and market opportunities.

The order is part of the airline's efforts to accelerate its long-haul expansion and modernize its fleet. The A350-1000 will remain the flagship aircraft for long-haul operations, offering exceptional range, fuel efficiency, and passenger comfort. The aircraft will continue to define the future of Philippine Airlines' international operations for many years to come.

Philippine Airlines currently operates two Airbus A350-1000 aircraft on long-haul routes, including nonstop flights from Manila to New York and Toronto. The new batch of nine aircraft is expected to be delivered between 2034 and 2036, with seven more scheduled for delivery by 2028 as part of the airline's 2023 order.

The A350-1000 features a three-class layout, including business class suites with privacy doors, a premium economy cabin, and an upgraded economy class cabin. The aircraft incorporates advanced composite materials and next-generation aerodynamics designed to improve fuel efficiency and reduce carbon emissions compared to earlier-generation aircraft.

Philippine Airlines has also secured a separate agreement with GE Aerospace for GEnx-1B engines to power its 15 Boeing 787-10 Dreamliners, which are scheduled for delivery between 2031 and 2034 as part of its fleet modernization program.
