Muji celebrated the opening of its twelfth Philippine store, a milestone that also marked the brand’s first foray into cosmetics in the country.
During the launch, the company’s president and general manager highlighted that the makeup line is initially available only at the SM Aura branch, with plans to expand to other locations, including the Glorietta flagship.
The new collection emphasizes a natural, healthy look, featuring improved color tones across base makeup and supporting products. Design considerations allow the items to fit seamlessly into Muji’s existing makeup storage solutions.
Formulas incorporate natural moisturizing agents such as jojoba seed oil, shea butter, apricot kernel oil, and chamomile flower extract.
Key products include glossy lipsticks priced at P390, targeting a younger audience seeking a wet‑lip finish, and a loose powder refill available for 18 grams at P350, with a full-sized option at P850 that rivals higher‑priced Japanese brands.
The company’s leadership praised the balance of affordability and quality, noting that the products offer good value compared to luxury brands found on the mall’s ground floor.
Muji cited stringent Food and Drug Administration regulations as a primary factor delaying the cosmetics launch in the Philippines.
Beyond makeup, the brand plans to introduce essential oils, fragrances, and additional food items, with a Muji‑branded chocolate expected later in the year.
Sales data indicate strong appeal among Philippine youth, a demographic that contrasts with Japan’s aging population. The brand’s popularity spans garments, stationery, food, and home goods.
Muji has outlined further expansion, including a new Quezon City store slated for August and additional openings anticipated in the final quarter of the year.
