SHERIFF'S SHOCKER: Inept Lead Jeopardized Case – Top Detectives SILENCED!

SHERIFF'S SHOCKER: Inept Lead Jeopardized Case – Top Detectives SILENCED!

The search for 84-year-old Nancy Guthrie has ignited a firestorm of questions surrounding Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos and his department’s initial response. Whispers within the department reveal a startling decision: the most seasoned investigators were pulled from the case almost immediately after it began.

At the critical early stages of the investigation, only one detective assigned to the case possessed more than three years of experience on the homicide squad. The remaining five detectives had less than two years, and their supervising sergeant had none. This lack of experience raises serious concerns about the handling of a suspected abduction.

Adding to the unease, at least two highly experienced homicide detectives were already sidelined, reportedly because they weren’t aligned with Nanos’ leadership preferences. These detectives were reassigned to the cold case division, effectively removing them from the active search for Guthrie.

Later, as the investigation evolved into a task force involving county detectives and the FBI, one of the sidelined detectives was brought back. However, this task force operated separately from the initial homicide squad, creating a fragmented investigative approach.

Despite the passage of time and the lack of concrete leads, Sheriff Nanos has publicly expressed optimism about Guthrie’s potential survival, stating that “anything’s possible.” Yet, those working the case within the homicide division harbor growing doubts.

While a sergeant’s lack of experience isn’t automatically detrimental, according to retired NYPD sergeant and criminal justice professor Joseph Giacalone, it highlights a missed opportunity. Giacalone suggests Nanos could have sought assistance from the experienced detectives in nearby Phoenix and Tucson.

Such a move, Giacalone argues, would have demonstrated strong leadership and provided invaluable mentorship to the less experienced team. He emphasizes that a lack of experience can be mitigated through guidance and training, resources that appear to have been overlooked.

Internal accounts paint a picture of a department operating under a climate of fear. One source claims Nanos “terrorizes” the department, making examples of anyone perceived as disloyal, a claim described as not hyperbolic but a stark reality.

The Pima County Board of Supervisors has taken action, hiring outside legal counsel to investigate allegations that Nanos committed perjury during a deposition related to a lawsuit filed by one of his deputies. A hearing is planned where Nanos will be compelled to answer questions.

Nancy Guthrie was last seen at her home in the Catalina Foothills in the early hours of February 1st. A trail of blood droplets led from her front door to the driveway, but investigators found no evidence of a struggle inside the house.

A chilling detail emerged from Savannah Guthrie, Nancy’s daughter and co-host of “Today”: the back doors of her mother’s home were found propped open. This discovery adds another layer of mystery to the already perplexing case.

Despite extensive DNA testing and digital forensics – which uncovered surveillance footage of a masked individual at Guthrie’s home both on the morning of the abduction and earlier on January 11th – investigators have yet to identify a suspect or make an arrest.

The Guthrie family continues to plead for the public’s help, urging anyone with information to contact the FBI at 1-800-CALL-FBI. The search for answers, and for Nancy Guthrie herself, remains urgent and ongoing.
