Elon Musk offers $100M to fund Mel Gibson film adaptation

Elon Musk announced his willingness to finance a Mel Gibson adaptation of the epic tale The Odyssey.

Responding to a fan’s proposal for a historically accurate version featuring dialogue in Homeric Greek, Musk offered a $100 million budget and said, “I’m down.”

He also revealed that his artificial‑intelligence platform would create a feature‑length adaptation before the year ends.

These statements follow Musk’s public criticism of Christopher Nolan’s film, particularly the casting choices that sparked debate.

Nolan’s version premiered to strong reviews, grossing $264 million worldwide during its opening weekend and achieving a 97 % audience score on a major review aggregator.

The production stars Matt Damon as Odysseus and Anne Hathaway as Penelope, and its diverse cast has been defended by the director and lead actors.

Musk’s remarks have not affected the film’s commercial performance, and the director has dismissed pre‑release backlash as irrelevant.

Nolan has expressed skepticism about artificial intelligence replacing human creativity in filmmaking.

Mel Gibson has not commented on the potential project, leaving his interest in directing an $100 million epic in Homeric Greek uncertain.

The competition could see a human‑directed version, an AI‑generated film, and Nolan’s release vying for audience attention.
