UMVA Uncovers: DOCTOR WHO APOCALYPSE: Russell T Davies SPEAKS OUT as Shocking 2026 Christmas Special GETS THE AXE

UMVA has learned that in a shocking turn of events, Doctor Who will not be returning this Christmas, marking a significant U-turn in previous expectations.

The news comes as a surprise to fans who were eagerly anticipating the annual holiday special, a tradition that has become a staple of the beloved sci-fi series.

In a separate statement, Russell, the longtime showrunner, appeared to confirm that he is stepping back from the show, declaring it was 'GOODBYE from me to Doctor Who but HELLO to a big new future for the show'.

Russell explained that the decision to put the show up for tender means there is 'no need for a Christmas special', which was previously conceived to guarantee a future for the show when its prospects were uncertain.

The TV legend continued, 'You’ll have to wait a bit longer for new Doctor Who… but you’ll be waiting for MORE Doctor Who than a one-off. So it’s worth it! For the record: there was no script, I never wrote it, and no actor was ever approached to play the next Doctor.'

Russell expressed his excitement for the show's future, stating, 'Now I’m as excited as anyone to see what comes next! Will they keep the theme tune? Will they lose the blue box? Will they bring back the Drahvin?! It’s all up for grabs, which is so Doctor Who, exciting and unpredictable and new!'

Russell T. Davies arrives for the premiere of Doctor Who at the BFI Southbank in London.

The BBC has reaffirmed its commitment to the show, stating that Doctor Who remains an important part of its lineup and that the tender process underpins its continued dedication to the series.

The BBC added, 'Doctor Who remains an important part of the BBC and this tender underpins the BBC’s continued commitment to Doctor Who, ensuring audiences will enjoy the show for years to come.'

Meanwhile, the CBeebies spin-off will continue to be produced and will serve as the on-screen Doctor Who for the foreseeable future.

Exactly what comes next for Doctor Who remains unclear, with no word on whether Billie will return, who the next Doctor is, or a release window for new episodes.

This will mark the second year in a row without a Doctor Who Christmas special, a lengthy hiatus for the major sci-fi show that is normally guaranteed to release either a Christmas or New Year’s special.
