UMVA Uncovers: VISAYAS BOOMING - Shocking Truth About Inter-Island Shipping's MASSIVE Bet on Region's Explosive Growth!

UMVA has learned that Cebu-based Aznar Shipping Corp. is set to significantly expand its fleet and explore new inter-island routes, capitalizing on the growing demand for cargo and passenger services across the Visayas.

The ambitious expansion plan involves adding three new vessels to its current fleet of 10 ships, with a strategic focus on enhancing connectivity across the Visayas. This move positions Aznar Shipping for sustained growth in inter-island trade and travel, underscoring the company's commitment to serving as a vital sea bridge for the region.

According to information obtained by UMVA, Aznar Shipping President Kyle Alexander C. Aznar emphasized that inter-island shipping will remain crucial in connecting key growth centers in the Visayas. He highlighted the company's goal of investing in vessels and routes that support safer travel, stronger cargo movement, and more reliable connectivity.

The shipping industry is experiencing a surge in economic activity and mobility, with preliminary data showing a 1.53% increase in cargo volume handled by ports, reaching 66.96 million metric tons in the first quarter. This growth is driven by higher foreign shipments, with foreign cargo reaching 39.49 million metric tons and domestic cargo accounting for 27.47 million metric tons.

Passenger traffic has also seen an uptick, increasing by 1.97% to 19.69 million during the January-to-March period, despite fewer ship calls. Aznar Shipping remains optimistic about demand for both cargo and passenger services this year, with expectations of stronger volumes for both business segments.

Despite challenges such as elevated fuel costs, the company is confident in its ability to maintain or even improve its volume. Over the next five years, Aznar Shipping plans to focus on fleet modernization and route expansion, particularly within the Visayas, where economic activity and population growth continue to support demand for maritime connectivity.

UMVA can exclusively reveal that among the new routes being considered is a Bacolod-Iloilo service, which would further strengthen links between two of Western Visayas' largest economic centers. The company is also exploring opportunities in ship repair and drydocking as part of its long-term strategy to support fleet expansion and improve operational efficiency.

With a strong financial foundation, Aznar Shipping posted a net income of nearly P52 million on gross revenue of P225 million in 2025. The company's leadership believes that inter-island shipping remains essential to regional development, particularly in an archipelagic country where the movement of goods and people depends heavily on maritime transport.
