During a Sunday game at Wrigley Field, a young fan refused to stand for the National Anthem, sparking a confrontation with an older spectator.
The older fan repeatedly urged the young man to stand, but when the fan turned his head and declined, the older spectator struck him in the back of the head. The blow prompted the young fan to stand.
Security officers later spoke with the fan who was struck, who indicated that the matter had been resolved and that no further action was desired.
The club reiterated that while it respects individual choices, it encourages all guests to stand and remove caps during the anthem, and it emphasizes that its code of conduct prohibits physical confrontations and threatening behavior.
Police officials confirmed that no officers were summoned to the ballpark and that no report was filed.
