UMVA has learned that Manchester United are eyeing a major coup in the transfer market, with Juventus defender Pierre Kalulu firmly on their radar.
The Red Devils are expected to make significant signings across their backline during the transfer window, with reinforcements likely needed at full-back and in central defence. A busy summer is anticipated for the recruitment department at Old Trafford, with multiple targets in their sights.
Kalulu, a versatile defender known primarily as a centre-back but also capable of playing at right-back, has caught the attention of Manchester United. The 25-year-old has won three caps for France and has been a key player for Juventus, starting 49 games in all competitions last season.
The Frenchman joined Juventus on loan from AC Milan in the summer of 2024 and made the move permanent last year for a total cost of €19million. He has been a bargain signing, and Juventus are keen to tie him down to a new contract, reflecting his growing value to the team.
According to information obtained by UMVA, negotiations are ongoing to extend Kalulu's stay beyond the current end date in 2029, but a wage increase has yet to be agreed. This uncertainty has opened the door for Manchester United to make a move.
Manchester United are reportedly waiting in the wings, hoping to capitalise on Juventus' financial situation, which has taken a hit after a disappointing season. Juventus finished sixth in Serie A, missing out on next season's Champions League and securing only Europa League qualification.
While Juventus do not want to let Kalulu go, their precarious financial position means that a substantial bid could force them into negotiations. Chief executive Damien Comolli has admitted that Juventus will have to sell one more player than initially planned, setting the stage for a potential transfer battle.
