The DSA also seeks to replace the president and Supreme Court with an executive and judiciary chosen by Congress, abolish the electoral college, and implement proportional representation and ranked-choice voting in all elections.
The DSA's platform is centered around radical proposals that would fundamentally transform the US constitutional system. They also aim to defund the Department of War, promote public ownership of major corporations, and free Palestine. Sacks emphasized that these proposals are not laughable, but rather a reality that the Democratic establishment is trying to grapple with.
The DSA's influence can be seen in the recent election of an unemployed 32-year-old PhD candidate to a congressional seat in New York. The candidate, who has never held a job and has spent 10 years in college writing a PhD thesis, defeated a longtime incumbent congressman. Sacks described her as "kind of a lunatic" even by DSA standards.
Sacks warned that the DSA's takeover of the Democratic Party will not be stopped until they are confronted and opposed. He emphasized that these individuals are not interested in debating policy, but rather in engaging in a hostile takeover of the party.
