A ten-month manhunt ended recently in Oshawa with the arrest of a 44-year-old man, bringing a crucial element of justice closer for a victim of horrific exploitation.
The investigation began last May, sparked by disturbing allegations that a woman had been systematically abused and controlled. Durham Regional Police’s Human Trafficking Unit quickly focused on a series of events that began in February of the same year.
Investigators painstakingly pieced together how the victim initially connected with two suspects within the city. What followed was a calculated and cruel manipulation, designed to strip away her agency and dignity.
The female suspect, Tina Baker, 43, was apprehended last July, facing a litany of charges including human trafficking, forcible confinement, and robbery. The details revealed a pattern of coercion, forcing the victim into sexual acts in exchange for money.
While Baker’s case progressed, an arrest warrant remained active for a second suspect, a man believed to be instrumental in the exploitation. His capture proved more elusive, requiring dedicated efforts from the Offender Management Unit.
On March 12th, that pursuit concluded. Yvenord Hyacinthe, of Oshawa, was located and taken into custody, now facing charges of assault, assault with a weapon, and procuring, among others.
Hyacinthe is currently awaiting a bail hearing, while the investigation continues to seek any further information that could shed light on the full extent of this disturbing case.
Anyone possessing knowledge related to this investigation is urged to contact the Human Trafficking Unit or Crime Stoppers, offering a vital opportunity to contribute to the pursuit of justice and the protection of vulnerable individuals.
