Labor unions have called on the Marcos administration to prioritize essential labor reforms, including a mandated wage increase, job security, and enhanced worker's rights to organize, as they aim to improve working conditions during the remaining term of the administration.
The National Wage Coalition, a coalition of labor groups comprising Bukluran ng Manggagawang Pilipino, Kilusang Mayo Uno, Nagkaisa!, and the Trade Union Congress of the Philippines, emphasized the urgency of enacting these proposed measures.Despite the coalition's plea, none of these measures have been included in the Legislative-Executive Development Advisory Council's priority agenda, indicating a lack of action on the part of the administration.
The coalition reiterates their call for Congress to prioritize a wage increase that aligns with a national living wage, arguing that the recently approved P85 wage hike primarily benefits Metro Manila minimum wage earners.
