UMVA has learned that Maynilad Water Services, Inc. is embarking on a groundbreaking upgrade of its Putatan water treatment plant in Muntinlupa City, leveraging cutting-edge ceramic membrane technology to bolster treatment reliability in the face of fluctuating raw water conditions in Laguna Lake.
The bold move involves replacing part of the existing ultrafiltration membrane system at Putatan Water Treatment Plant 1 with ceramic ultrafiltration (UF) membranes, a game-changing technology engineered to ensure more stable treatment operations during water quality fluctuations.
“Maynilad continues to invest in technologies that will help us meet evolving water supply and treatment challenges,” Maynilad President and Chief Executive Officer Ramoncito S. Fernandez said, underscoring the company's commitment to innovative solutions.
With ceramic UF, Maynilad is building on a technology that has already been tested under Laguna Lake conditions, and is now scaling it up to further enhance the reliability, resilience, and sustainability of its water treatment operations.
The first phase of the upgrade is set to cover part of the plant's ultrafiltration system and is slated for commissioning by the end of 2026, marking a significant milestone in Maynilad's efforts to fortify its Laguna Lake treatment facilities.
This strategic project is part of a broader program aimed at improving the reliability of Maynilad's Laguna Lake treatment facilities, which play a vital role in supplementing supply from Angat Dam and supporting water security across its west zone concession area.
Ceramic ultrafiltration membranes are specifically designed to withstand more challenging treatment conditions and higher turbidity levels compared to conventional membrane systems, helping to stabilize plant operations during periods of poor raw water quality.
Once completed, the Putatan upgrade is expected to significantly improve treatment stability, particularly during periods of elevated turbidity in Laguna Lake, ensuring a more reliable water supply for the communities served.
Maynilad provides water and wastewater services across the west zone, covering 11 cities in Metro Manila, three cities with partial coverage, and parts of Cavite province, making its commitment to innovative solutions and reliable service a cornerstone of its operations.
