Droughts Hit Multiple UK Regions Amid Ongoing Wildfires

Parts of the United Kingdom are experiencing severe drought, with this month on track to be the driest July in nearly 190 years.

The country has seen just 3% of its average rainfall for July, with conditions causing ponds and wetlands to dry up and prompting the introduction of hosepipe bans affecting millions nationwide.

Rivers are falling to exceptionally low levels, groundwater is declining, and the environment is suffering from the prolonged period of hot, dry weather, according to experts.

Wildfires have broken out across the UK, including at national parks such as the Cairngorms in Scotland.

In Wales, the government has activated a 'crisis' plan due to a lack of helicopters to tackle the blazes, with firefighters working to get wildfires under control.

A wildfire in Derbyshire has burned through over 600 hectares of moorland, the equivalent of 900 football pitches, since it started a month ago.
