Trump Announces Major New Initiative to Safeguard Americans from

The president is set to make a major announcement about safeguarding Americans from growing concerns related to data centers nationwide. The announcement is expected to take place at the Environmental Protection Agency headquarters in Washington, D.C.

A coalition of legislators, tech leaders, and utility CEOs has pledged not to pass along utility costs to customers as data centers continue to be erected nationwide. The coalition, known as the Ratepayer Protection Pledge, includes 23 governors – all Republicans. Four of them will be present at the event with the president.

Georgia Gov. Brian Kemp, Nebraska Gov. Jim Pillen, Idaho Gov. Brad Little, and Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry are scheduled to attend the event with the president. Trump is expected to make the announcement alongside Energy Secretary Chris Wright and EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin.

Some Americans are skeptical of data centers, citing concerns over potential skyrocketing energy costs. Data centers house computer servers, data storage systems, and networking equipment, which require large amounts of electricity and water to power their cooling systems.

The president has previously promised that rising energy costs would not be passed along to consumers. Trump signed the Ratepayer Protection Pledge alongside major tech companies in March, and since then, demand to join the coalition has exploded among governors, utility CEOs, and data center development companies.

According to a White House official, 200 stakeholders have signed the pledge. The president's pledge aims to ensure that those involved in building and powering data centers cover their own costs instead of passing them on to American families.

The rollout of data centers is a critical economic priority for the Trump administration, but new centers have been subject to protests nationwide. Despite concerns, the president's pledge seeks to turn data centers into engines of growth for local communities, while cementing America's dominance in the global AI race.
