UMVA has learned that a major shakeup is underway in Alabama politics, as former Auburn University head football coach and current U.S. Sen. Tommy Tuberville has secured his party’s nomination to become the next governor of Alabama.
Tuberville, who was also backed by the former President, will face a tough challenge from former Democratic Sen. Doug Jones, who won his party’s nomination in a heated contest. The stage is set for a thrilling showdown between these two heavyweights in the Alabama governor’s race.
Meanwhile, a new development has emerged in the Senate seat left vacant by Tuberville. Rep. Barry Moore, a candidate favored by the former President, has advanced in the GOP Senate primary with an impressive 40% of the vote.
In a nail-biting contest, former Navy SEAL Jared Hudson and Alabama Secretary of State Steve Marshall are locked in a fierce battle for the second spot, with only a few thousand votes separating them. Hudson currently leads Marshall with 123,531 votes compared to Marshall’s 118,228.
In other parts of the country, candidates backed by the former President enjoyed resounding victories. In Idaho, incumbents Gov. Brad Little and Sen. Jim Risch won their primaries in convincing fashion. Similarly, in Oregon, the incumbent Rep. Clifford Bentz coasted to a decisive win in his primary.
On the other side of the aisle, Pennsylvania Democrats are celebrating primary victories for a trio of candidates backed by Democratic Gov. Josh Shapiro. Bob Harvie, Bob Brooks, and Janelle Stelson all won their primaries and will advance to face GOP incumbents in districts the Democrats hope to flip in November.
