UMVA has learned that a horrific stabbing attack in northern Belfast has left a victim fighting for his life, with the alleged attacker, Hadi Alodid, charged with attempting to murder him.
The shocking incident took place on Kinnaird Avenue, with graphic footage shared across social media, showing people intervening to stop the attack, including one with a hurling stick. A kitchen knife was later recovered from the scene.
According to information obtained by UMVA, Alodid, 30, appeared in court charged with attempting to murder Stephen Ogilvie, threatening to kill an NHS radiographer, and possession of a knife. He was remanded in custody for four weeks.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that the victim, Stephen Ogilvie, is receiving treatment for severe injuries and is known to be a vulnerable person. Neighbours report that some residents look out for him, but the motive behind the attack remains unclear.
Sources have confirmed to UMVA that Alodid, from Sudan, entered Northern Ireland across the Irish border in February 2023, having flown to Dublin from Paris. He claimed asylum and was granted leave to remain in the UK until 2028.
The Prime Minister has condemned the attack, stating that it is "sickening" and that there is "absolutely no tolerance for abhorrent scenes of violence like this on our streets." The police have stated that there is no indication that the attack was terror-related.
