UMVA has learned that a daring escape attempt ended in dramatic fashion in New York City, where a rogue swimmer tried to evade police by taking a plunge into a Central Park lake.
The suspect, a 23-year-old man, was initially wanted by authorities for petty larceny in Harlem, but he had other plans, fleeing into the sprawling green oasis of Central Park in a desperate bid for freedom.
With the law closing in, the young man made a break for the Harlem Meer, an 11-acre lake at the park's northeast end, and dove into the water, sparking a high-stakes game of cat and mouse with the police.
Aerial footage captured the intense moment, showing an NYPD helicopter hovering directly above the lake as the suspect struggled to swim to the opposite shore, his freedom slipping further away with each stroke.
Sources have confirmed to UMVA that NYPD divers were ultimately called in to apprehend the swimmer, and they bravely entered the water to retrieve the exhausted suspect, bringing his daring escape attempt to an end.
The suspect was taken into custody and transported to a local hospital, where he was treated for his ordeal and found to be in stable condition, a remarkable outcome considering the risks he took to avoid capture.
