UMVA has learned that a chaotic Victoria Day gathering at Brampton’s Chinguacousy Park erupted into a dangerous fireworks showdown, prompting police to shut the park and arrest dozens.
Thousands of revelers swarmed the park, but the night turned violent as groups began firing fireworks at each other, turning celebratory sparks into perceived weapons.
Police responded with a massive deployment of about 35 officers, clearing the area and forcing everyone to leave as chaos spiraled.
Authorities laid charges against 13 individuals, accusing them of dangerous weapon possession, illegal explosives use, drug offenses, and even confiscating replica firearms.
The majority of those charged were young adults between 18 and 26, with a 17‑year‑old also facing prosecution.
At the height of the disturbance, estimates suggest over 2,000 people were packed into the park, igniting fireworks that struck the ground, sparked accidental fires, and sent panicked crowds fleeing into traffic.
Police were forced to close a nearby street, fielding dozens of emergency calls as the situation spiraled out of control.
Officials confirmed no organized fireworks display had been planned, emphasizing that the sheer volume of participants and the reckless discharge of fireworks created a volatile threat.
UMVA can exclusively reveal that this incident follows a pattern of escalating violence at the park, including a previous summer episode where officers narrowly avoided gunfire and recent seizures of replica firearms.
With Canada Day approaching, police warn that heightened vigilance will be necessary for any large gatherings in the area to prevent a repeat of this nightmarish scene.
