Duterte Leads in 2028 Pulse Asia Presidential Poll

The 2028 presidential election in the Philippines is taking shape, with Vice-President Sara Duterte-Carpio emerging as the leading choice for President despite her ongoing impeachment trial.

A recent nationwide survey conducted from June 28 to July 3 and July 6 showed that 49% of respondents would vote for Ms. Duterte if the presidential election were held during the survey period.

Ms. Duterte posted her strongest support in Mindanao at 87% and the Visayas at 53%, giving her a significant advantage over her closest rivals.

She led Naga City Mayor Maria Leonor "Leni" G. Robredo by one percentage point in Metro Manila, 39% to 38%, while both received 31% in the rest of Luzon.

In a one-on-one presidential race, the Vice-President would have an edge over Naga City Mayor Robredo, with 52% of respondents supporting Ms. Duterte and 39% backing Ms. Robredo.

The survey also found that Senator Christopher "Bong" T. Go emerged as the preferred vice-presidential candidate, with 27% of respondents supporting him.

Senator Robinhood Ferdinand "Robin" C. Padilla came in second with 21%, while Senator Paolo Benigno "Bam" A. Aquino IV and former Senator Mary Grace Poe-Llamanzares each received 14% of the vote.

The poll covered a range of topics, including the start of Ms. Duterte's impeachment trial, the election of Senator Sherwin T. Gatchalian as Senate president, and the World Bank's reclassification of the Philippines as an upper-middle income economy.

The survey of 2,400 adults had a ±2% margin of error at the 95% confidence level.
