Senator Erwin T. Tulfo has recently submitted a resolution focusing on investigating the escalating electricity bills and potential unsuitable meter readings.
Mr. Tulfo emphasizes the necessity for a thorough examination of the current laws managing the power sector as well as the complaint-resolution mechanisms, driven by repeated consumer grievances.
This proposal arises from a Senate hearing where the Philippines is recognized for having the highest residential electricity rates in Southeast Asia. Residential rates stood at P16.57 per kilowatt-hour in on-grid areas in June and reached P24.92 per kilowatt-hour in off-grid areas relying on oil-fired generation.
