AI REVOLUTION: Your Digital Twin is HERE—And It's Taking Control.

AI REVOLUTION: Your Digital Twin is HERE—And It's Taking Control.

The surge of personal AI assistants began earlier this year with OpenClaw, sparking a trend of desktop AI agents working towards user-defined goals. Now, a new evolution is taking shape: AI that anticipates needs and acts without explicit instruction – “proactive” AI.

ChatGPT was an early adopter, introducing “ChatGPT Pulse” last September. Currently in preview for Pro subscribers on mobile, Pulse delivers a personalized morning briefing. It synthesizes information from recent chatbot conversations, connected Gmail, Google Calendar, and direct user feedback.

Claude and Gemini are now poised to join this movement. Evidence suggests Claude is developing “Orbit,” a proactive assistant connecting to tools like Gmail, Slack, GitHub, and more. This feature appears geared towards developers, offering daily briefings based on overnight research.

Orbit’s potential unveiling is anticipated at Anthropic’s Code with Claude conference. The goal is to streamline production workflows by proactively delivering relevant information to users.

Google is also working on a similar feature for Gemini, dubbed “Proactive Assistance.” Discovered within the Google app, it leverages Gemini’s Personal Intelligence to analyze data from connected Google services, texts, screen content, and notifications.

Proactive Assistance aims to provide “personalized suggestions at the right time,” drawing on a comprehensive understanding of a user’s digital life. Google may reveal this feature at its Google I/O keynote next week.

These proactive tools represent a significant leap beyond current AI assistants. Unlike agentic AI like OpenClaw, which responds to defined outcomes, Pulse, Orbit, and Proactive Assistant aim to initiate action based on inferred interests and intentions.

The true value of these proactive systems remains to be seen. Will they be genuinely helpful, or simply intrusive? Success hinges on seamless implementation and a nuanced understanding of user needs.

Experiences with existing AI assistants offer a glimpse of the potential pitfalls. While some automations prove surprisingly useful, overly assertive suggestions can quickly become irritating.

Proactive AI, when executed effectively, could be the next crucial step in the evolution of personal AI. Expect to hear much more about this emerging trend in the coming weeks and months.
