This time there will be no two minutes for high-sticking penalty for this Whitby hockey player.
Or slashing either.
But this kid might get first star honours. Or perhaps, at least, a gold medal or a trophy is in order. It doesn’t get any more Canadian in the middle of a cold and snowy winter than this.
Move over NHL all-time penalty leader Tiger Williams. This guy is protecting his home team.
No need to drop the gloves. Just grab a stick.
“A 17-year-old Whitby teen caught two men trying to steal his dad’s truck,” Toronto Crime Watch posted to X. ”The teen grabbed a hockey stick, ran outside and started beating the car thieves, chasing them off.”
It seemed to work.

The thieves did not appear to be wearing helmets or protective face masks.
The video posted shows one attempted car thief inside the pickup truck and one standing just outside of it. Then in comes the teenager swinging the hockey stick. The suspects didn’t stick around to lose any teeth or end up with some stitches thanks to this stick.
Toronto Crime Watch (TCW) tells the Toronto Sun this occurred Dec. 10, 2025.
“They were targeting the dad’s Tundra TRD,” said TCW.
They didn’t get it. This save was not even with a goalie stick but one used by a skater. Put that one in the Hockey Hall of Fame!
Durham Regional Police have yet to comment on what happened next.
However, from all accounts a hockey stick is not considered a registered weapon. It certainly proved to be effective this time.
Turns out you don’t just use one for offence to score goals. Hockey sticks work well on defence, too.
