A 21-year-old Pakistani citizen residing in Canada and arrested in Quebec has pleaded guilty to being part of a plot to carry out an attack on the Jewish community in New York City.
In a statement made public Thursday , the United States Justice Department reported that "Muhammad Shahzeb Khan, also known as 'Shahzeb Jadoon,' pleaded guilty to attempting to commit acts of terrorism transcending national boundaries for attempting to enter the U.S. and carry out a mass shooting with automatic weapons at a prominent Jewish center in Brooklyn, New York."
Khan is expected to return to court on Aug. 12. While the maximum penalty for the offence is life in prison, sentencing will be determined by the presiding judge.
Khan was arrested by Canadian law enforcement at the request of U.S. on Sept. 4, 2024, in Ormstown, about 20 kilometres from the U.S. border. In February 2025,
Khan told a Quebec Superior Court judge he consented to the extradition proceedings against him.
