YEARS LOST: She FAKED Being a Missing Child – And Demanded Money!

YEARS LOST: She FAKED Being a Missing Child – And Demanded Money!

A father’s relentless search for his missing daughter has been exploited by a callous scammer preying on the grief of families. Richard Lee discovered a woman, identifying herself as Heather McCord, was falsely claiming a connection to his daughter, Katrice, who vanished as a toddler.

Katrice disappeared on her second birthday near a British military base in Germany, a tragedy that has haunted her family for decades. McCord allegedly created a GoFundMe campaign, falsely stating she needed funds to travel to the UK for a DNA test to prove her identity and connection to the case.

The scammer managed to collect $225 before Richard Lee became aware of the fraudulent activity. He expressed his outrage, stating the woman’s actions were a blatant attempt to profit from their pain, a stark contrast to his family’s unwavering pursuit of truth.

Richard Lee, 76, says the shameless conwoman set up fundraising pages and banked hundreds of dollars by pretending to be missing Katrice Lee. Katrice vanished on November 28, 1981 on her second birthday while looking for her mum in a shopping centre in Germany, where Richard was stationed with the British Army. Richard, a former sergeant major who served in the army for 33 years, vowed to solve the mystery and says he will keep going until the day he dies. But now dad-of-two Richard, from Hartlepool, County Durham, says an American woman is claiming to be his lost daughter and set up a donation page in February. The deception was uncovered by an administrator of a separate missing children’s page, who recognized McCord was using Richard’s past interviews and fabricating a storyline about wanting to offer a DNA test. She began her scheme in late February, targeting individuals with empathy and a desire to help.

This isn’t an isolated incident. Reports suggest McCord is a serial scammer, simultaneously running multiple donation pages based on the disappearances of other children. Richard believes she is a professional exploiting the vulnerability of grieving families.

Richard pointed out the simplicity with which a legitimate DNA test could be conducted through military channels, highlighting the absurdity of the woman’s elaborate story. She focused solely on needing travel funds, avoiding any concrete details or willingness to engage with official procedures.

“She is trying to cash in on our tragedy, and it shouldn’t be allowed,” Richard stated, his voice filled with frustration and sorrow. The family has reported the incident to the UK Military Police, who are now collaborating with US authorities to locate and identify the perpetrator.

Despite the disheartening setback, Richard remains steadfast in his commitment to finding answers about Katrice’s fate. His determination is fueled by an enduring love that transcends time and circumstance. He vows to continue searching until he achieves a resolution, no matter how long it takes.

“Love doesn’t die, and that’s what it’s all about,” he affirmed, encapsulating the unwavering hope that drives his decades-long quest for closure. The search continues, shadowed by the knowledge that someone sought to profit from their unimaginable loss.
