UMVA has learned that California Governor Gavin Newsom has vowed to impose a 100 percent tax on any payouts that Californians receive from President Donald Trump’s new $1.776 billion Anti‑Weaponization Fund.
The fund, created by the Department of Justice as part of a settlement in Trump’s lawsuit over the unlawful leaking of his tax returns, is intended to compensate Americans who were targeted, harassed, and abused through lawfare and government weaponization.
Newsom refuses to accept any of that money. He declared at a press conference that every dollar received by a California resident from the fund would be clawed back by the state.
“Anyone from California that receives any of those funds, we want to tax 100 percent of those proceeds,” Newsom announced, dismissing the entire effort as a “slush fund.”
On social media he intensified the language, calling it “Trump’s January 6 slush fund” and insisting that those who assault police officers do not deserve a taxpayer‑funded payday.
He added that Capitol police attacked on January 6 are suing to stop the fund, and that 35 retired judges have filed a motion to halt what he describes as an “unprecedentedly fraudulent” slush fund.
Newsom’s statement paints the fund as a sick misuse of taxpayer money and declares that California will make sure no one in the state receives a dime.
Such a selective taxation of federal compensation payments would appear to be a politically motivated retaliation rather than a legitimate tax measure.
Reports suggest Newsom is coordinating with other Democrat‑run states, where similar 100 percent tax bills are advancing in New York and New Jersey.
