MOTHER CONFESSES: Nightmare Unfolds in Custody Battle!

MOTHER CONFESSES: Nightmare Unfolds in Custody Battle!

The quiet of a Massachusetts suburb shattered last Friday, replaced by a horror that unfolded within the walls of a family home. Janette MacAusland, a 49-year-old acupuncturist, now stands accused of the unthinkable: the murder of her two young children, Kai, 7, and Ella, 6.

Following the alleged crime, MacAusland fled, driving over 225 kilometers to her aunt’s home in Vermont. There, she began frantically banging on the windows, a desperate and disturbing plea for entry.

Her aunt, Sandra Mattison, recognized the frantic figure and brought her inside. It was then, in the relative safety of her aunt’s home, that MacAusland delivered a chilling confession. “I strangled them and then I tried to kill myself,” she reportedly told Mattison, her voice heavy with despair.

Alleged killer Janette MacAusland, right, and her children, 7-year-old Kai and 6-year-old Ella.

The confession didn’t stop there. When asked about her estranged husband, Samuel MacAusland, she spoke of a horrific intention: “at the lake. I wanted the three of us to go to God together but it didn’t work.” A failed attempt at a shared, tragic end.

Mattison, deeply disturbed, immediately contacted the police, requesting a welfare check on her niece. MacAusland was found with bloody wounds on her throat, and upon police arrival, she repeated her devastating admission, confirming the deaths of her children.

Vermont authorities swiftly alerted their counterparts in Massachusetts. A subsequent check of the family home revealed the heartbreaking reality – Kai and Ella were found deceased. The scene confirmed the unimaginable loss.

An arrest warrant was issued on Saturday, charging MacAusland with two counts of murder. She has since waived her right to fight extradition, preparing to face the charges in Massachusetts.

The tragedy is rooted in a bitter and protracted custody battle. Court filings reveal a fierce struggle between Janette and Samuel MacAusland over their children and the family home. Just weeks before the murders, they had agreed to a third-party investigation to help resolve the dispute.

A guardian had been appointed only days prior, a last-minute attempt to navigate the increasingly fraught situation. The timing underscores the escalating tension and the desperate need for intervention.

Those who knew the children remember them as vibrant and full of life. A former babysitter, Cale Darrah, expressed her profound sorrow, stating, “They were two beautiful children who were full of life and laughter.”

Darrah continued, lamenting that the world would now remember Kai and Ella not for their joy, but for the tragic circumstances of their deaths. A heartbreaking loss that leaves a community reeling and a family shattered.
