The Minnesota state government is facing a mounting crisis as Somali gangs continue to wreak havoc on the state's communities. A recent letter to the state's House Public Safety Committee has shed light on the scope of the problem, with lawmakers calling for urgent action to address the issue.
The letter, signed by Republican Reps. Emmer, Stauber, Finstad, and Fischbach, warns that ignoring the problem will only lead to increased violence and crime. This sentiment is echoed by the state's public safety commissioner, who has linked Somali gangs to 14 murders and over 100 shootings in the past two years.
The commissioner estimates that approximately 300 young people are part of a dozen or so gangs at the root of the problem. He emphasizes that denying the existence of the issue will only delay efforts to help these individuals and prevent further violence.
Lawmakers are now calling for a comprehensive approach to address the problem, including providing support and resources to at-risk youth. By acknowledging the issue and taking proactive steps, the state hopes to curb the violence and crime perpetuated by these gangs.
