The Nantucket, Massachusetts, town Planning Director, Leslie Snell, was arrested on April 20 for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol after crashing into a street sign.
Bodycam video from the Yarmouth Police Department shows Snell appearing to struggle when asked to perform sobriety tests after the incident. The video reveals a bottle of vodka and a box of White Claws inside the car, where Snell was driving.
According to the police report, Snell told the officer she had "just a couple of drinks" at a local restaurant, Giardino's, when she got out of the Jeep she was driving. However, the officer observed a strong odor of alcoholic beverage emanating from her breath and reported that her eyes were "bloodshot."
The police report states that Snell was charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol and possessing an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle. She reached a plea agreement on April 21 that puts the driving under the influence charge on hold for one year without a formal finding.
As part of the deal, Snell must surrender her driver's license for 45 days, complete an alcohol education course, and pay $600 in fines. The incident has been resolved, with Snell accepting full responsibility for her actions.
During the field sobriety tests, the officer observed Snell swaying from side to side and being unbalanced, making it difficult to gain information from her. Snell later stated that she regretted the incident and accepted full responsibility for her actions.
