A mother and her teenage daughter tragically lost their lives at West Mersea Beach while attempting to rescue a seven‑year‑old boy who had become distressed in the water.
The boy was transported to hospital and remains in critical condition in the Intensive Care Unit. His father is currently by his side, while the mother’s elder son, daughter, and other relatives have returned home safely.
Dr. Rahman, a family member, thanked the community for its support, noting that many calls and messages had been received and that the outpouring of love and prayers had been profoundly meaningful.
Detective Chief Inspector Al Pitcher stated that the victims were identified as a mother and daughter from London and that the investigation is focused on understanding how the incident unfolded. He confirmed that all parties involved were related.
The scene was attended by approximately 18 emergency vehicles, and investigators are interviewing dozens of witnesses to reconstruct the events leading up to the tragedy.
