MILLIONAIRE MAULED: Hunting Trip Turns DEADLY in Africa!

MILLIONAIRE MAULED: Hunting Trip Turns DEADLY in Africa!

The dense rainforest held a hidden danger, a tragedy unfolding on April 17th in Gabon. Ernie Dosio, a 75-year-old vineyard owner from California, lost his life in a terrifying encounter with wildlife during a hunting expedition.

Dosio had traveled to Africa pursuing yellow-backed duikers, a small species of antelope, within the Lope-Okanda rainforest. He was a seasoned hunter, a man who had spent decades collecting trophies from both Africa and the United States, filling his home with the heads of animals he’d pursued.

The incident occurred when Dosio and his guide unexpectedly stumbled upon a family of elephants – five females protecting their calf. The sheer force and protective instinct of the herd proved fatal, as Dosio was tragically trampled.

News of his death quickly spread, confirmed by both the safari operator, Collect Africa, and the California-Hawaii Elks Association. Tommy Whitman, a colleague, expressed profound sadness, noting the loss would be deeply felt by family and loved ones.

Those who knew Dosio described him as a dedicated hunter who always operated within the bounds of the law. His hunts were meticulously licensed and often framed as “conservation culls,” intended to help manage animal populations.

Regulations dictated that Dosio could not bring his own firearms into the country. The safari company provided a shotgun and ammunition specifically for hunting the duikers, a practice common in these controlled expeditions.

According to a fellow hunter in Cape Town, the tragedy likely stemmed from a surprise encounter. The elephants, feeling threatened by the sudden intrusion, reacted instinctively and with devastating force. The details were grim, but the hunter believed Dosio’s passing was swift.

Beyond the pursuit of game, Dosio was remembered as a generous man, a dedicated conservationist, and a philanthropist who actively supported charitable causes. His death resonated deeply within the hunting community and beyond.

Arrangements are underway to repatriate Dosio’s body back to the United States with the assistance of the U.S. Embassy in Gabon. He leaves behind a legacy tied to both the land he cultivated – owning Pacific AgriLands Inc. and its 12,000-acre vineyard – and the wild landscapes he explored.

The incident serves as a stark reminder of the inherent risks of venturing into the territory of wild animals. Gabon, a crucial habitat for endangered forest elephants – numbering around 95,000 – demands respect and caution from those who enter its wilderness.
