A video captured a woman dumping a trash can onto a New York City street and then walking away with the container during the Knicks championship parade. The incident quickly spread online, drawing widespread attention.
The individual in the footage has been identified as Angie Baez, a 40‑year‑old executive at JPMorgan Chase. Baez held the position of executive director of community and industry engagement for card and connected commerce.
She earned the role after a promotion more than a year ago, according to her professional profile. Before joining the bank, Baez served as executive director of diversity, equity, and inclusion at a New York‑based review website that JPMorgan later acquired.
Following the viral video, JPMorgan Chase terminated Baez’s employment. The bank confirmed that the employee is no longer with the company.
Reports indicate that Baez missed work to attend the parade celebrating the Knicks’ first NBA championship in over five decades. Her personal attendance at the event placed her on the parade route where the incident occurred.
The Knicks‑themed trash can was later recovered and returned to the Department of Sanitation. Officials emphasized that the container is public property.
The sanitation department issued a statement condemning the act of dumping trash onto the street and stealing public property, describing it as illegal, antisocial, and “incredibly stupid.” The department underscored that such behavior does not reflect the standards expected of New Yorkers.
