England’s Yellow Cards: Impact on World Cup Suspensions

England’s Yellow Cards: Impact on World Cup Suspensions

The yellow card amnesty takes effect after the quarter‑final stage of the tournament, meaning any bookings earned in earlier matches are expunged before the semi‑finals.

As a result, no England player will be suspended for a yellow card received in the semi‑final. Only a red card would prevent a player from appearing in the final.

Jude Bellingham received a booking in England’s win over DR Congo and avoided a repeat offence in the matches against Mexico and Norway.

Declan Rice was booked after just a minute against Mexico, while Marc Guehi and Nico O’Reilly were added to the referee’s notebook in the second half.

All four players now have the assurance that a booking in tonight’s game will not affect their eligibility for Sunday’s showdown.

Jarrel Quansah was sent off in the earlier match against Mexico, and FIFA extended his ban to two matches, ruling him out of the game against Argentina.

Should England progress to the final, Quansah will be available to play if the team reaches Sunday’s match.
