Democrat Senator Ruben Gallego has faced intense scrutiny over allegations of questionable spending habits, including the use of campaign donations for personal expenses such as luxury outings, vacations, child care, and Super Bowl tickets.
The senator's relationship with former Rep. Eric Swalwell (D-CA) has raised further concerns about his behavior, particularly regarding accusations of involvement in Swalwell's personal affairs.
Gallego recently shared a video boasting about taking two months off to care for his wife following an unplanned C-section, presenting himself as a devoted family man.
However, others quickly pointed out that this image is questionable, as Gallego's divorce records show that he left his pregnant first wife, Phoenix Mayor Kate Gallego, to be with his second wife, when she was nine months pregnant in 2016.
In addition, Gallego's campaign account was ordered to pay over one million dollars in legal fees after a ten-month-long battle with a newspaper to keep his divorce records sealed by the courts.
Gallego's recent video post, in which he claimed to have taken two months off to care for his newborn daughter, has been met with skepticism, with some pointing out that the child is from his second marriage, after he left his first wife pregnant to be with a lobbyist.
Special Assistant to the President & Deputy Press Secretary, Abigaill Jackson, criticized Gallego's decision to share the video, saying that he appears to be "terribly arrogant or has zero self awareness."
Others have also questioned the judgment of Gallego's communications team, suggesting that they failed to anticipate the negative reaction to his post.
