The consequences of those earlier policies are now acutely felt across the nation. Law enforcement agencies, particularly those in border states like Texas, have been relentlessly working to apprehend both those crossing illegally and the individuals facilitating their passage.
In Starr County, a routine traffic stop by a Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS) trooper unveiled a disturbing scene. A Chevrolet pickup truck, pulled over for a minor violation, concealed five individuals being smuggled across the border.
The driver was taken into custody, facing federal charges, while the five passengers were turned over to Border Patrol for processing. A detail quickly emerged that spoke volumes about the organized nature of the operation.
Each of the individuals apprehended wore brightly colored wristbands. These weren’t random accessories; they are a chillingly efficient tracking system employed by the cartels to monitor payments and coordinate illegal crossings.
Further east, in Cameron County, a high-speed chase unfolded. DPS troopers pursued a white Ford Escape, ultimately disabling the vehicle with a precision PIT maneuver. The driver, a human smuggler, was arrested at the scene.
The vehicle wasn’t carrying just people. Alongside the illegal passengers, troopers discovered significant quantities of marijuana, revealing a dangerous intersection of human trafficking and narcotics smuggling.
These events aren’t isolated incidents, but rather symptoms of a larger crisis. They underscore a fundamental responsibility enshrined in the U.S. Constitution – the federal government’s duty to defend the nation against invasion.
Article IV, Section 4, explicitly states the United States “shall protect each [state] against Invasion.” This isn’t merely a suggestion; it’s a constitutional mandate, a cornerstone of national sovereignty.
