DEVILS IN DISGUISE: Mom Duo Starved Child to Death – Crown Delivers SHOCKING Verdict!

DEVILS IN DISGUISE: Mom Duo Starved Child to Death – Crown Delivers SHOCKING Verdict!

The cold was the last sensation he knew. A 12-year-old boy, reduced to the weight of a six-year-old, lay unresponsive on the frigid floor of a basement bedroom, soaked to the bone in a wetsuit. His final moments unfolded in a space meant to offer sanctuary, but instead became his tomb.

Prosecutors presented a harrowing picture of calculated cruelty, alleging Becky Hamber and Brandy Cooney systematically starved and isolated the boy, ultimately leading to his death. They weren’t dealing with an unforeseen tragedy, they argued, but a deliberate descent into neglect and abuse, masked by a carefully constructed facade of normalcy.

The Crown detailed a disturbing pattern of control, where basic necessities – food, warmth, even a blanket – were weaponized as punishment. Text messages revealed a chilling transformation, the women casting themselves as “prison guards” overseeing the boys’ confinement. Love and care were replaced with a relentless pursuit of “compliance and respect” through deprivation.

(R) Becky Hamber, 46, and (L) Brandy Cooney, 44, have pleaded not guilty to murder in the Dec. 21, 2022, death of one of the boys in their care.

The illusion of a loving home was meticulously maintained for the outside world. Pictures of abundant food graced social media, toys sat unused, bicycles gathered dust – all performative, designed to deflect scrutiny while the boys suffered in silence. It was a cruel deception, a stark contrast to the reality within the basement walls.

Evidence painted a heartbreaking portrait of a child desperately seeking sustenance. A video showed the boy, emaciated and weeping, pleading for breakfast, only to be met with belittlement. His cries for help were dismissed, his hunger ignored, his dignity stripped away.

The defense argued the boy suffered from an undiagnosed eating disorder, claiming the mothers desperately sought medical assistance. But prosecutors countered that no such diagnosis existed, and opportunities for treatment were actively rejected. A brief period of hospitalization, where the boy actually gained weight, was met with “chagrin” by the accused, according to the judge.

The boys under the care of Becky Hamber and Brandy Cooney were forced to do stair climbs.

A terrifying incident a month before his death foreshadowed the tragedy. The boy was found shivering uncontrollably, unable to stand or speak coherently. Instead of calling for emergency help, the mothers allegedly researched hypothermia online and attempted to treat him themselves, including immersing him in warm water – a desperate and ultimately inadequate response.

The cycle of abuse continued. Within days, the boy was again restrained in a zip-tied wetsuit, forced to endure grueling stair climbs, and locked in the cold basement, his blanket once more taken away. His weakened state made him vulnerable, and the inevitable followed.

On the night of his death, the Crown alleged a frantic attempt to rewarm the boy in a hot tub, followed by a calculated effort to conceal their actions. He was carried inside on an ice fishing toboggan and “dumped” on the basement floor, leaving a pool of water as the chilling testament to his final moments. The hot tub cover was quickly closed, a desperate attempt to erase the evidence.

Prosecutors argued the evidence was “overwhelming,” a damning indictment of the mothers’ actions. They urged the judge to find them guilty of murder, assault, forcible confinement, and failing to provide the necessaries of life. The fate of these two women, and the memory of a lost child, now rests with the court.
