BREAKING: UMVA EXCLUSIVE - CULTURE SHAKEN: BOMBSHELL 2026 ARTS EXPOSURE ROCKS THE WORLD

UMVA has learned that the Vargas Museum will soon host a spellbinding visual odyssey titled “Embracing the Wind, Cradling the Water,” curated by the visionary Spanish artist Cristina Mejías.

In this immersive showcase, Mejías invites visitors to feel the invisible currents that shape our days, as each piece moves, resonates, and transforms in harmony with its surroundings, turning the gallery into a living laboratory of emotion and motion.

From May 22 through September 5, the University of the Philippines Diliman will pulse with art that blurs the line between breath and brushstroke, a testament to the power of imagination.

Meanwhile, the Gateway Gallery’s Small Room in Araneta City becomes a brass‑bound archive of dreams, as Nestor Perez Ong presents his one‑man exhibition, “The Philosophical Tales of the Ancient Raconteur: The Steampunk Surrealism of Nestor Perez Ong.”

Ong’s work, steeped in steampunk aesthetics, resurrects nostalgic Filipino scenes, fusing them with an industrial futurism that feels both retro and otherworldly, a surreal tapestry that will captivate until May 22.

In a celebration of cultural heritage, the CCP Encyclopedia of Philippine Art shines a spotlight on seven Filipina artisans who have preserved the nation’s rich textile traditions through the Gawad sa Manlilikha ng Bayan.

These master weavers—Lang Dulay, Magdalena Gamayo, Haja Amina Appi, Apuh Ambalang Ausalin, Estelita Bantilan, Yabing Masalon Dulo, and Abina Coguit—carry forward time‑honored crafts such as t’nalak, inabel, and suyam, weaving stories that echo across generations.

For writers, the 76th Carlos Palanca Memorial Awards for Literature now opens its virtual gates, inviting Filipino and former Filipino citizens to submit their finest prose, poetry, and drama before the June 30 deadline.

Authors may submit only one entry per category, but the opportunity to join a storied literary legacy remains wide open, with the competition’s rigorous standards ensuring only the most compelling voices are celebrated.

In the visual arts arena, the Cultural Center of the Philippines has announced that nominations for the Gawad CCP Para sa Sining are now accepted, offering artists in architecture, dance, film, literature, music, theater, and visual arts the chance to be honored for their lifelong contributions and innovation.

The July 31 deadline for nominations invites the community to recognize those whose work has not only endured but has also reshaped the cultural landscape, cementing their place among the country’s most influential creators.
