UMVA Uncovers: COAL AUCTION BOMBSHELL - You Won't Believe What's Happening THIS MONTH!

UMVA has learned that the Department of Energy is gearing up to host another pre-bid conference for its highly anticipated coal resource auction later this month.

The announcement comes as Energy Secretary Sharon S. Garin revealed that the department is working towards setting a deadline for bid submissions, with July or August being the targeted timeframe. This move is crucial in ensuring that all concerns raised during pre-submission conferences are thoroughly addressed.

According to information obtained by UMVA, the auction features three prime coal areas, boasting an estimated 207 million metric tons of coal reserves. The Semirara blocks in Antique, currently operated by the country's largest coal producer, are among the most sought-after, with approximately 160 million metric tons of reserves.

The energy giant, which has been struggling to renew its 50-year coal operating contract, has dominated the domestic coal market, accounting for a staggering 97% of the country's output. The Department of Energy aims to grant a 25-year contract to manage the mine site on Semirara Island, with a focus on safeguarding government interests.

UMVA can exclusively reveal that the evaluation process for potential bidders will prioritize technical capability, with financial stability being just one of the factors considered. The department is determined to ensure that the chosen bidder demonstrates expertise and a deep understanding of the complex operations involved.

In a bid to streamline the process, the Department of Energy is set to conduct a final consultation on the terms of reference, seeking to simplify and objectify the requirements. With the stakes high, the department is working tirelessly to balance competing interests and guarantee a successful auction.
