Swedish firms in PHL cite need for clear rules, sustainability norms

Swedish companies operating in the Philippines are calling for clearer regulations and alignment with sustainability best practices to preserve investor confidence.

They stress the importance of transparent rules and strict adherence to the rule of law.

Compliance with sustainability standards and government enforcement are becoming key factors in Swedish firms’ investment decisions.

Swedish firms also seek an ambitious agenda within their value chain, assessing environmental and social standards in the Philippines to feel confident in establishing businesses.

A recent business climate survey gave the Philippines a score of 3.1 out of 5 for 2026, while positive sentiment dropped from 41% to 31% amid heightened caution.

The survey highlighted a flood control scandal involving government officials and contractors, which weakened overall business sentiment.

Reported corruption exposure stood at 26% in public bodies, 16% in private counterparts, and 5% internally.

Swedish exports to the Philippines totaled $192.13 million in 2025, while Philippine exports to Sweden reached $64 million.
