This recognition, granted by the Department of Health, solidifies the hospital's position as a leader in sustainable and environmentally responsible healthcare operations, joining its reputation for clinical excellence. The hospital's five-star rating was achieved through demonstrating excellence in several key areas, including governance, water efficiency, sanitation and hygiene, healthcare waste management, environmental resilience, and indoor environmental quality. These accomplishments showcase the hospital's dedication to sustainable practices.
A key factor behind the recognition was the hospital’s successful transition to 100% renewable electricity, supported by energy-efficient lighting systems and carbon-reduction initiatives. This significant step has substantially reduced the hospital's environmental footprint.
St. Luke’s has also integrated sustainability into patient care through innovative admission kits containing eco-friendly products made by local artisans and farmer groups. This approach not only supports local communities but also promotes environmentally responsible practices among patients.
