$5 MILLION IN LUXURY CARS… OBLITERATED!

$5 MILLION IN LUXURY CARS… OBLITERATED!

A pre-dawn glow painted the Calgary skyline a terrifying orange this week, as flames engulfed a building housing a luxury car dealership and auto body shop. The inferno, reported shortly after 4:30 a.m., quickly escalated into a devastating spectacle, leaving behind an estimated $10 million in destruction.

The heart of the loss lies within the walls of Kulu Motorcar, a dealership specializing in the world’s most coveted automobiles. While investigators are still piecing together the cause, the scene speaks volumes: twisted metal, blackened frames, and the haunting remnants of vehicles once representing the pinnacle of automotive engineering.

At least twenty exotic and luxury cars are confirmed destroyed, representing roughly $5 million of the total damage. Models from Ferrari, Lamborghini, Porsche, McLaren, and Rolls-Royce – vehicles often irreplaceable due to their rarity and bespoke customizations – were consumed by the blaze. The remaining $5 million is attributed to the extensive damage to the building itself.

Calgary firefighters are shown following an early morning fire on 1A Street S.W. a little before 5 a.m. Monday, March 16, 2026.

Steve Hagopian, a partner in the ownership group behind Tunerworks, the auto body shop sharing the building, described the initial reaction as “early morning disbelief.” As the sun rose, the full weight of the loss settled in – the showroom, the offices, the familiar workspace, all gone.

Though separated from the dealership by a cinder block firewall, Tunerworks wasn’t spared. While flames didn’t directly reach their side, the intense heat, smoke, and cascading water inflicted significant damage. A Porsche and BMW within the shop sustained considerable harm, their fate uncertain.

Despite the setback, Hagopian emphasized the resilience of his team. They’ve established a temporary office at a nearby Porsche specialist shop, Riegel Tuning, ensuring minimal disruption to their customers. “We’re very fortunate to have the other buildings on the same block,” he stated, highlighting their commitment to continued service.

The loss extends beyond mere monetary value. Othman Ali, founder of the Bespoke Car Club, explained the unique challenge of pricing rare, customized vehicles. “Some of the cars…are not replaceable,” he said, emphasizing the subjective and often escalating value of these automotive masterpieces.

Ali and others within Calgary’s automotive community expressed deep sympathy for the dealership owner, describing the situation as a “nightmare.” The dealership wasn’t just a business; it was a hub for enthusiasts and a showcase for exceptional vehicles.

Firefighters battled the blaze with unwavering determination, ultimately deploying 75 personnel and 25 apparatus to contain the inferno. Thankfully, no injuries were reported. The southeast walls and roof collapsed, revealing the charred remains of the showroom, a stark testament to the fire’s intensity.

The investigation continues, with fire department officials returning to the scene to determine the cause. For now, the community mourns the loss of these extraordinary vehicles and the disruption to businesses that fueled a passion for automotive excellence.
