The accused, Jose Medina, a Venezuelan national, has been charged with Gorman’s murder. Details emerging from the case reveal a troubling pattern: Medina had been previously apprehended by both U.S. Border Patrol and Chicago police, once for shoplifting, and released on both occasions.
Authorities say Medina was first taken into custody by Border Patrol in May 2023, then released. He was later arrested in Chicago for shoplifting in June 2023, and again released back into the community. This history has fueled accusations of failed policies and a dangerous lack of oversight.
