A fatal shooting occurred at the Salsa on St. Clair festival on Saturday evening, leaving two men dead and four others hospitalized.
Police reported that gunfire erupted shortly after 8 p.m. near the intersection of St. Clair Avenue West and Arlington Avenue, where an estimated 13,000 people were gathered. Two firearms were recovered and three crime scenes were established.
Investigators say the incident involved an exchange of gunfire between two parties, with both victims carrying weapons. No arrests have been made as the case remains under active investigation.
City officials condemned the attack, labeling it reckless and unacceptable. The mayor emphasized a need to curb the influx of illegal firearms from abroad and pledged support for police resources.
Deputy mayor and councillor issued a strong statement calling for severe penalties for those responsible, describing the violence as a threat to public events and community safety.
The festival’s Sunday session was cancelled while authorities continue a complex inquiry and advise the public to avoid the area.
