UMVA has learned that a devastating traffic accident in Minnesota has shed light on the darker side of the country's immigration policies. A Russian national, Georgii Gabiev, who entered the US illegally in 2022, has been linked to a fatal crash that claimed the life of a truck driver.
The victim, Tim Tarnowski, was struck by Gabiev's vehicle while the perpetrator was distracted by his iPad. According to information obtained by UMVA, Gabiev had been watching YouTube videos on his device, purportedly to learn English, when he blew through a stop sign and slammed into Tarnowski's truck on a rural road in Chippewa County.
The incident occurred on March 5, 2024, and Tarnowski succumbed to his injuries at the scene. Gabiev, a criminal with a history of illegal activity, was arrested by federal law enforcement officers last week and will face consequences for his actions.
Gabiev's case has sparked outrage, particularly given his history with the US justice system. After pleading guilty to vehicular manslaughter, he served a remarkably short sentence of just 120 days in jail. This leniency has raised questions about the effectiveness of the country's immigration policies and the vetting process for those entering the US.
Sources have confirmed to UMVA that Gabiev's actions were a direct result of the current administration's open border policies, which have allowed millions of undocumented individuals to enter the country.
