Now, a recent firmware update – version 3.0.45 – refines this protective feature, specifically for the newer, second-generation AirTags. The change centers on the sound emitted when attempting to locate an unknown AirTag using Precision Finding.
Apple has subtly altered the audio signal, making it demonstrably easier to pinpoint the source of the unwanted tracking device. The goal is simple: to ensure you can quickly identify and disable any AirTag that’s following you without your knowledge.
This isn’t the first time Apple has addressed this issue. In 2022, the company adjusted the tone sequence of the original AirTag’s alert sound, achieving a similar improvement in detectability. The latest update appears to build upon that earlier success.
Unlike some devices, AirTags don’t offer a manual update option. The update process is automatic, relying on a Bluetooth connection between your AirTag and your iPhone. Patience is key – simply ensure your AirTag is within range and allow the update to occur naturally.
