London’s Euston station, a gateway for travelers across the nation, will fall silent for nearly a week this Easter. Prepare for significant disruptions if your holiday plans involve train travel, as a major engineering project will halt all services to and from the station.
From Good Friday, April 3rd, until Wednesday, April 8th, Euston will be completely closed to Avanti West Coast and London Northwestern Railway trains. The usual “Euston rush” will be replaced by a quiet stillness as Network Rail undertakes vital, but disruptive, work.
Passengers heading to Scotland, the North West of England, or the West Midlands will find their journeys altered. All trains will now terminate at Milton Keynes Central, requiring a transfer to rail replacement buses for the final leg to London.
Beyond Euston, expect ripple effects across the rail network. Heathrow Airport train services will start later than usual on Sunday, April 5th. Travelers using the Stansted Express will face diversions via London Liverpool Street due to track closures between Stratford and Tottenham Hale.
Waterloo station will also experience a reduced service between Waterloo and Clapham Junction, necessitating train changes at Clapham Junction from Good Friday to Monday, April 6th. Queenstown Road Battersea station will be entirely closed throughout the Easter weekend.
The London Underground will not be immune to disruption. The Hammersmith & City line will be closed for four days, while sections of the Bakerloo, District, and Northern lines will also face closures and service alterations.
The Elizabeth line will see reduced services and station closures, particularly on Sunday, April 5th and Monday, April 6th, with some trains skipping stops at Acton Main Line, Hanwell, and West Ealing.
London Overground passengers should also anticipate changes. The Lioness line will experience significant disruptions, with no service between Willesden Junction and Watford Junction on several days. The Mildmay line will also face a full closure between Willesden Junction and Richmond on Sunday, April 5th.
Even the Docklands Light Railway (DLR) will be affected, with no service between Bank/Tower Gateway and Poplar/West India Quay for the duration of the station closure. Careful planning is essential for a smooth journey.
These widespread disruptions underscore the scale of the Easter engineering works. Passengers are strongly advised to check National Rail’s website for the latest updates and plan their travel accordingly to avoid unexpected delays and frustration.
