The search for a 10-year-old girl in New Jersey continues after her 10-year-old brother's body was found in the Passaic River late Wednesday night.
Efforts to recover the body are ongoing, with officials hoping against all odds that the little girl may still be alive.
According to local officials, the 10-year-old boy's body was discovered in the river, and it is believed that he may have helped push his sister to safety before his own death.
Reports indicate that bystanders saw three children in the water around 6:20 p.m. local time Wednesday, prompting calls for help.
A good Samaritan attempted to assist the children, but was unsuccessful.
The search and rescue operations, which include members of the Passaic Police Department, the Passaic County Sheriff's Office, and the New Jersey State Police, were hindered by high water levels caused by recent storms.
The search continued into Thursday morning, with officials expressing hope that the missing girl may still be found alive.
