Team England gymnast sustains serious injury after fall

During the men’s artistic gymnastics competition at the Commonwealth Games, England gymnast Gabriel Langton was removed from the high bar after a severe fall that caused him to land on his head. The incident occurred during the qualification round on Friday, shocking spectators and teammates alike.

Medical staff immediately halted the event and attended to Langton, who was placed in a neck brace before being transported on a stretcher to a hospital. The competition was delayed while he received urgent care.

Former Olympic medalist Max Whitlock, who had missed the Games due to injury, expressed concern over the incident, noting the unusual nature of both hands coming off the bar and the impact of a fall from that height. Whitlock remarked that the atmosphere changed dramatically after the event.

Team member Joshua Nathan described the day as a rollercoaster, emphasizing the collective support for Langton and pride in the team’s resilience. He highlighted how the experience brought the athletes closer together.

Luke Whitehouse reflected on the emotional challenge, stating that the team had to reset mentally and focus on the competition after the fall. He praised the athletes for carrying on under difficult circumstances.
